For all his deadpan honesty, he cares so deeply about everything he does and everyone he grows close to. I just think he’s deeply underrated, but I’m also such a sucker for the silly jock with a heart of gold (see also: Ryuji from Persona 5).Īkaashi: his tendency to overthink and panic and be hard on himself without realizing how valuable he truly is to the team and everyone around him is, at the risk of sounding narcissistic, something I’ve been called out on many times. He makes up the backbone of the team and is the heart of the team too, SO reliable and funny while also being such a good senpai to the first years. Tanaka: he was my first favorite and has held onto that spot terrifyingly well through my watch of the anime, read of the manga, and many rewatches since. Runner-ups include Asahi (every rewatch/reread I realize I always sell Asahi short, guy is hard not to root for and he’s often underrated), Kuroo (what’s not to like? He’s like Tsukishima but likeable :P), Akagi (super underrated libero), and pretty much anyone on Fukurodani (they don’t get as much focus as Bokuto and Akaashi but when you actually pay attention to their moments/stats, you realize how well rounded Fukurodani actually is).Įdit: Added some runner-ups now that I have more time. Not much to say with Yaku, he’s arguably the best libero that we actually see a significant amount of and I love his relationship with the rest of Nekoma, especially the third years. I like Bokuto and Akaashi and their dynamic, as well as how they fit into Fukurodani as a whole. Daichi would take too long to talk about so I’ll just say he was my favorite when he was introduced, only being passed by Noya later. Reasons vary but Noya just is such a dependable force within Karasuno once he rejoins the team, and yet they still manage to give him little moments of development here and there that I love. Obviously if I could list the whole cast here I would, but I'll keep it to this list for now :P Takeda - A beautiful intersection of literature and sport. Perfect harmony of selfishness and selflessness.ĮDIT: HOW COULD I FORGET 7.

Nekomata would be proud.Ītsumu - Absolute beast. Kuroo - The very personification of passion incites passion. So relatable (especially the younger, more "talented" junior and the "volleyball is fun" aspects)Īsahi, Suga, Tanaka, Ennoshita, and Ikejiri (sorry that's a lot!) - the overwhelming pressure of having to be good at what you love, and keeping at it continuously, and defying those expectations Oikawa - Helped me realize that talent and hard work aren't dichotomous. Tsukishima - His growth didn't erase his snarky, witty side - in fact, it made it better. Shimada - A great mentor, Yamaguchi is incredibly lucky. RUNNER-UPS BECAUSE THIS CAST IS SO LOVABLE Yachi - She's such a lovable character, and probably the one I see myself most as currently! Kita - He sets a good example of the person I aspire to be - similar to Kageyama in that he's attentive and meticulous.

The way he handled burnout felt realistic, and the resulting mindset was very freeing. Hirugami - I know exactly what he's gone through. I adore the way he takes care of himself, and takes care of his passion. His growth and understanding of what it means to get better (including personal maintenance) is a journey I would love to have myself.
